Sony Xperia S to hit Indian market on April 10
Sony Mobile India has confirmed the company will be launching its Xperia S smartphone in India on April 10. The Sony Xperia S is going to be first Sony-branded smartphone in the country, after it took over Ericsson's mobile business last year.
The Sony Xperia S was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show event earlier this year. The device sports 4.3-inch TFT touchscreen, Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS (promised to be upgraded to the latest Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich), 1.5 GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor, 12.1 MP camera, It also comes with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. For connectivity, the device supports NFC, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi.
Sony India hasn't revealed the official price of the Xperia S. However, online retailer LetsBuysuggests the device will be priced about Rs. 32,500, taking on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC One X.
The Sony Xperia S has already been released in some markets including the U.K. The device recently came in the limelight after Sony conceded that some of the Xperia S devices were experiencing a display issue, where a yellow tint appears on the screen after the temperature of the phone gets too high.
Owning up the glitch, Sony said in a statement that "the display on a limited number of Xperia S smart phones may show a slight yellow tint if exposed to temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius." Sony, however, stressed that a very few devices are affected and promised to replace the affected ones free of cost. Read our previous coverage here.
